The Buzen Kaido Avenue, Yamaga Hot Spring
This main avenue tells stories about the prosperity of Yamaga since the Edo period. The retro-chic townscape with paving brings you to various visiting spots, including a cozy theater built during the Meiji era, temples, shrines, and hot springs.
There are also guided tours and lantern girl kimono-wearing experiences.
The Yachiyoza theater
The theater is a Traditional Cultural Property built in 1910 but is still in operation. the iconic designs of the walls, the interior, and the exterior all make you feel like you've experienced time travel. You can enter and tour around the landmark when there’s no program.
Oomiya Shrine
Enshrined Emperor Keiko, the 12th legendary Emperor of Japan, the shrine is the symbol of veneration as a local deity. There are many sights to see- the profound gate and the Sarutahiko Okami stone statues (which boast the greatest in Kyushu). The “Yamaga Lantern Dance Festival”, with a 600-year history, is held every August.

A popular service in which users can take their picks of kimonos from a wide variety of antique choices. Have a relaxing stroll, take the spotlight, and pose for lovely pictures in kimonos. By 2-day advance reservation; coming with a hair-setting fee.
Mini lantern-making workshop
A valuable handcraft workshop to get to know how to make a lantern from professional specialists. The experience is to make a small but authentic “golden lantern” from as many as 30 small components. Let’s create your handcraft souvenir telling the heart-calming traditions of the Yamaga dance!
